2.7.: UniExperiment goes economics !

Mischa Khotyakov, St. Petersburg & Munich,

berichtet von seiner Lektüre von Friedrich v. Hayeks „Road to Serfdom“,
mit anschließendem Austausch.

Mischa:
First published in 1944,
´The Road to Serfdom´ by Friedrich von Hayek
made a revolutionary case arguing that the socialist ideas inevitably lead to totalitarianism once put into practice for a longer period of time. This fact, though already known and understood by some people, was not only not widely accepted, but seemed almost heretic in the world destroyed by economic crises and war and seeking salvation in the wise planning of the state.
Today the question of socialism as understood in the first half of the twentieth century – namely state property on the means of production and central planning – does not arise in the Western societies. But it is not an exaggeration to say that the mixed economic system we live in is the product of intellectual work widely influenced by the Hayek’s book.

We will step by step go the book through discussing the main arguments, talking about individualism, competition, morals, security and above all about freedom. The talk will last about 75 minutes and will be given in German.“

Mihal Khotyakov
studied economics and mathematics in St.Petersburg and Munich. He is interested in general economics questions.
